Having manned the polls for 14 hours, a few facts and observations. Not meant as contentious. Just meant to relay what voters thought and saw:

Scott's Ridge Middle School Voting District: NO = 715 63% YES = 421 37%

East Ridge Middle School Voting District: NO=958 74% YES = 344 26%
|
|
Yanity Voting District: NO = 590 77% YES = 178 23%
|
|
Absentee Ballots: NO = 127 87% YES = 13 23%
|
|
TOTAL NO = 2,390 71% TOTAL YES = 962 29%

22.5% of the eligible voters came to the polls. To put that in perspective, only 18% of the eligible voters showed up for the last May's budget vote. (There are 15,530 eligible voters in Ridgefield.)

3,352 voted in the 2nd referendum. 2,800 voted in the 1st referendum on May 15th, 2007 with final results: TOTAL NO = 1,448 52% TOTAL YES = 1,352 48%

Informally, people at the polls said their concerns were:
- The tax increase
- The environmental impact
- The sense of entitlement from sports groups
- The referendum being held in February making it more difficult for Senior Citizens to vote
- The questionable facts in the sports groups communications
- The loophole in the town's new Charter allowing this referendum to be brought up a second time as well as the cost of this second referendum.
